Research-Lab's approach to this topic

Preface

This article is being written in response to the assignment to carry out the complete research on various issues related to Speaker Verification for Research-Lab's upcoming computer security product's campaign.

This article is going to cover the important speaker verification  issues such as services, products, service providers and Research-Lab's approach to Speaker Verification.

Research is focused on the following points

Speaker Verification Technology...general

Speaker Verification technology is based upon the distinctive characteristics derived from spoken words or phrases. These characteristics are based on the physiology of the vocal track combined with unique behavioral aspects of speaking to enable verification of the identity of  the person who is speaking.
Speaker Verification is completely different from speech verification, a technology which is in use to translate what person says into the information that can be understood by a computer based system.

There are number of verification technologies in the market such as Speaker Verification, voice recognition, speaker verification, speech recognition, voice pattern matching / voice print scanning, finger prints verification, user authentication through facial expressions, eyedentification and so on.

Validating Methodology...how it works?

General idea about how Speaker Verification is takes place through any Speaker Verification software. When user attempts to enter any voice based password system, user is asked to enter user name and voice password, then system validates that entered voice print with the existing voice print from user profile. Once user is authenticated then only he will be awarded the access to the system.

Voice Print matching ...in general

Accuracy of Voice print provides secure, unique and highly impossible to break means of  offering user authentication systems. You must be very eager to know about " What is this new security? and how does it work? " and here let me bring answer to questions...
In technical aspects voice print is a digital representation of person's voice, consisting of genetic as well as environmental characteristics. Here Genetic characteristics include the physical characteristics of  the user's vocal tract such as nasal cavity and Environmental Characteristics it includes the nature of person's speech and how he learned to speak such as dialect, accent, expression, intonation and volume.

Voice Print matching ...the most accurate verification system

Voice print matching technology gives high-end accuracy, so it is more accurate than Traditional Data Stream passwords, Fingerprints, Face Recognition, Facial Expression or nearly every other type of Biometric Technology. The most important feature of Voice Print is it is the only Biometric that can be used over VoIP or telephone.
Every person has his own and unique voice pattern and no one other can the same voice pattern as you have. Also the voice passwords are very easy to understand and remember than text based passwords because humans learned to speak first than to write or analyzing things by textual representation.

Other Verification Technologies.
  • Eye / Retina Scan
The person can be identified by a retina scanning which  provides an analysis of the capillary blood vessels located in the back of the eye. This pattern never changes throughout the life. In this scan a low-intensity light to take an image of the pattern formed by the blood vessels. (For these types of verification systems special scanners are available.)
  • Iris Scan.
Iris scanning is performed on analysis of the rings, furrows and freckles in the colored ring that surrounds the pupil of the eye, in this scanning more than 200 points are used for comparison.
  • Face / Facial Expression Recognition
Facial characteristics are used to perform facial recognition. This can be an example of biologon systems.
  • Signature
It provides a basic means of  identification though it can be changed over time.
  • Finger Print / Thumb Print Identification
In this verification system fingerprints are used to identify the person because fingerprints never change through out the life, though person ages the fingerprints also do get larger in the same proportion.
  • Hand Geometry
Measurements and comparisons of hand are considered in this system as a characteristics to identify any person. Here hand geometry plays a roll of Biokey.
